I have the biggest sweet tooth ever. When I start fiending for something sweet its like something takes over me and I will stop at nothing to satisfy my craving. Sweet cravings are powerful man.
This healthy hot chocolate recipe is one of my favourite ways to get my sweet fix while still loving and supporting my body with copious amounts of nutrition. Plus it's freaking delicious.
Raw cacao is so good for you. Its full of essential minerals like magnesium (which gives you so much energy!), calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper and potassium. It's also rich in B vitamins which are particularly difficult to get if you don't eat meat so this is great for all you wonderful vegans and vegetarians out there!
AND if you happen to have ovaries and your sweet cravings are due to PMS, then this hot chocolate elixir is going to be EXTRA beneficial because the healthy fats in the coconut oil are great for reducing inflammation and relieving cramps.
So heres the recipe...
2 cups almond milk
4 tbsps raw cacao
1 tbsp virgin coconut oil
a pinch of himalayan pink sea salt
raw honey or pure maple syrup to sweeten
Heat the Almond milk on the stove. Make it a little hotter than you would normally drink your hot chocolate since it will lose heat when it gets blended.
Pour the hot almond milk along with the rest of the ingredients into the blender. Blend it on a high setting for just a few seconds until it gets nice and creamy (the oil emulsifies).
Top with a little cinnamon, a little more cacao powder or raw cacao nibs.
Tip: If your blender seals super well on the top and you don't have a fancy blender like a vitamix or ninja, then leave the lid open just a tiny crack when you're blending so that the blender doesn't "explode" when you open it from the heat.
