I love this time of year. I love new years resolutions. I get so excited thinking about how I want to improve myself over the next 12 months and how I’m going to get there. I’m a dreamer and the world is my oyster.
I haven’t always felt this way though.
There was a time in my life when I would say things like, “I don’t expect much so that I avoid getting disappointed.” Or, “My new years resolution is to stop biting my nails.”
Seriously, Karley? Thats all you’re expecting from yourself?
It’s not surprising that I got exactly what I was expecting… which wasn’t much.
You will accomplish everything that you believe you will accomplish.
If you believe 100% without a shadow of a doubt that you are going to do something, then there is no way in hell that you are not going to do it.
If you believe that you will complete a 10k race in April then you absolutely will.
If you believe that you can and are going to increase your income by a certain amount then you are going to do it.
If you believe that you’re going to own a certain car or live in a certain home then fuck yes ! You’re going to do it!
I don’t mean things are going to just happen for you because you told yourself they would. I don’t mean that accomplishing you goals will be easy or painless. I don’t mean that you won’t have to work your ass off for it.
What I mean is anything is possible. Don’t limit yourself by thinking that driving your dream car or having your own business isn’t something that will ever happen for you because if thats your attitude then I can guarantee that it’s not going to happen.
Stop limiting yourself by your own beliefs.
You will always live a life as large as the context that YOU set for it. So expand your context to make room for more content.
“You are who you believe you are." -C.S. Lewis
Want to become a runner? Well start believing that you’re a runner! Make it your identity.
Humans are wired to stay true to their identities. That’s a fact. People will do just about anything to conform to who they believe they are and who they believe other people believe they are. It’s crazy. And you can either make that work for or against you.
For example, if you want to quit smoking, when someone offers you a smoke, instead of saying “No thanks, I’m trying to quit”, try saying, “No thanks, I’m a non-smoker”. See how much more powerful that feels? See how your identity has now just shifted from someone who is struggling to try to quit smoking to someone who just doesn’t smoke? There is so much POWER in who you believe you are and who you tell others that you are.
So what does your life look like without limiting beliefs?
My challenge to you is to play big in 2016. My challenge to you is to change your limiting beliefs this year and go for your craziest dreams. You never know what you are capable of until you get out of your own way.
Go for it. Make a plan. Go for your goals.
You are not here to live a small life. You didn’t wake up this morning to be mediocre.
Let’s be on-purpose-awesome in 2016!
